Juniors Stephanie Yakoff and Kavya Karra made some noise by winning in the No. 1 doubles slot. Their performance was a clear highlight, taking down Boston College’s top doubles team.

That win gave the Crimson some early energy. It felt like they might run away with the doubles point.

Challenges in Doubles Play

But things got tricky after that. Boston College’s Olivia Benton and Leyden Games edged out Harvard’s Claire Shao and Natalie Block in a tight 7-6 tiebreak.

In another close match, Tola Glowacka and Isavella Camacho beat Natasha Rajaram and Anna-Raphelle Serghi 7-5. Those losses meant Harvard dropped the all-important doubles point.

Singles Play: A Tough Battle

Once singles started, Boston College pretty much took control of the scoreboard. On court three, Karra stood out by grabbing Harvard’s only singles win with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Natalie Eordekian.

She looked calm and confident throughout, notching her second win of the day against Boston College. That was a bright spot in an otherwise rough singles round.

Struggles on Other Courts

The rest of the singles matches didn’t go Harvard’s way. On court two, Shao lost 6-4, 6-2 to Seren Agar.

Rajaram fell 6-3, 6-3 to Tola Glowacka on court four. Over on court five, junior Kate Kim was defeated by Leyden Games, 6-2, 6-2.

Unfinished Matches

No. 49 Yakoff’s singles match against Olivia Benton didn’t finish. Yakoff dropped the first set 7-6, but was up 3-0 in the second when they stopped the match.

Freshman Andra Braicu’s match on court six against Nadia Barteck was also left incomplete. Braicu lost the first set and trailed 1-3 in the second when the Eagles clinched the overall win.

Looking Ahead

Even after the loss, the Harvard women’s tennis team feels optimistic. They’re getting ready to take on the University of Wisconsin in Madison, Wis., on Saturday, Jan. 31.

The players want to bounce back. They’re hoping to build some momentum for a strong season.
