Women’s college flag football is catching on fast across the United States. New programs, conferences, and events seem to pop up almost every week.

New Program Announcements
Women’s college flag football is about to get even bigger. Indiana Tech and Rochester Christian University (MI) both announced varsity women’s flag football programs starting in the 2027-28 academic year.
They’ll compete in the NAIA’s Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC). Providence College (RI) is joining in too, adding a women’s flag football club team for the 2026-27 academic year.
Providence becomes the second Big East Conference school to launch a club team.
Power 4 Conference Involvement
Here’s something big: the University of Nebraska will start competing in the 2027 spring season, a year earlier than planned. The Huskers are making history as the first Power 4 Conference school to field a varsity women’s flag football team.

The NAIA’s Mid-South Conference plans to sponsor women’s flag football starting with the 2026-27 academic year. Ten members will compete in its first season, bringing the total NAIA conferences sponsoring the sport to six.
MEAC and Atlantic East Conference
The NCAA Division I Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) just announced its flag football members for 2026-27. The lineup includes:

- North Carolina Central University
- University of Maryland Eastern Shore
- Affiliate members Gardner-Webb University (NC) and Mississippi Valley State University
The NCAA Division III Atlantic East Conference will dissolve at the end of 2026-27. Flag football members Centenary University (NJ), Immaculata University (PA), and Marymount University (VA) will join the United East Conference for 2027-28.

William Woods University (MO) dropped its 2027 regular season schedule. The season starts February 13 against McPherson (KS) and wraps up April 10 versus Missouri Baptist.

The University of Florida will hold its 38th annual Swamp Bowl from Friday, October 23 through Sunday, October 25. Teams can register for this one online too.
Coaching Changes and Job Opportunities
The newsletter highlights several coaching changes and job openings. Bradley University (IL) named Robert Penney as the first head coach for its women’s flag football club team, which starts play in 2026-27.
