What a week for college soccer. Whitman College’s women’s soccer team pulled off a thrilling win over Whitworth University, bumping them to the top of the Northwest Conference standings.

Whitman’s women’s soccer team really brought their A-game, edging out Whitworth University 1-0. The match took place on September 24 at James Hayner Field in downtown Walla Walla.

Avery Cohen knocked in the only goal, hitting the net in the 30th minute. With this win, the Blues improved to 2-0-1 in league play and now sit at the top of the nine-team standings.

Overall, they’re 3-1-3. Not a bad start at all.

Walla Walla Community College (WWCC) had a week to remember too. Both the men’s and women’s teams picked up convincing wins.

The women’s team blanked Treasure Valley 3-0. The men’s team followed up with a dominant 5-0 shutout over the same opponent.

For the WWCC women, Tessa Halfmoon stood out with two assists, while Karen Villegas added another. Bailey Bloxham, Isabelle Marshall, and Soleil Hoefer all found the back of the net.

Emi Pruneda made a key save to secure the shutout. The Warriors now hold a 3-1-0 league record and are 6-1-3 overall.

Men’s Team Highlights

The WWCC men were just as sharp, taking down Treasure Valley 5-0. Zaid Arguello led the way with two goals.

Danny Gonzalez, Alvaro Castellon, and Cesar Martinez each scored too. Xavier Cuevas chipped in an assist, and goalies Aaron Lowry and Julian Correa split the shutout.
