St. John’s Women’s Tennis Announces Exciting 2026 Match Schedule
St. John’s Women’s Tennis team is gearing up for what looks like an exciting 2026 season, at least according to Head Coach Lauren Leo. The Red Storm’s spring schedule features 20 matches, with six BIG EAST tilts that could make or break their run.
The team comes off a solid 14-7 record and a decade-long streak of BIG EAST Tournament Semifinal appearances. They’ll play 10 home matches at the USTA National Tennis Center and Cunningham Park.
There’s a mix of returning players and some new faces, which always brings a bit of unpredictability. St. John’s seems set to make waves, but hey, nothing’s guaranteed in college tennis.
St. John’s 2026 Spring Schedule: A Comprehensive Overview
Table of Contents
The 2026 season starts with two dual matches in Fort Myers, Florida. St. John’s will face Florida Gulf Coast on January 16 and Miami Ohio on January 18.
These early matches should set the tone as the team tries to build on last year’s momentum. It’s always tricky to predict how the opening week will go, but that’s half the fun.
Home Opener and Early Matches
St. John’s hosts Fairfield for its home opener at the USTA National Tennis Center on January 30. This one’s a rematch from last season, when the Johnnies took it 4-1.
After that, the team heads to New Jersey to face Princeton on February 1. It’s their first meeting since 2014, so there’s a bit of history in the air.
Three-Match Homestand
The Red Storm will enjoy a three-match homestand at the USTA National Tennis Center. The schedule includes:
- Rider on February 6
- Monmouth on February 8
- Hofstra on February 13
This stretch marks the third straight season St. John’s takes on these three programs. Familiar faces, but every year brings its own surprises.
Valentine’s Day and BIG EAST Opener
On Valentine’s Day, the Johnnies will face Yale, though the location and time are still up in the air. Next, they return to Queens to open BIG EAST play against UConn on February 20 at 12:15 p.m.
Last season, Noemi Babikova had a standout performance against UConn, but the Huskies edged out a 4-3 win. Maybe this year swings the other way?
Mid-Season Matches and Road Trips
St. John’s stays home to welcome New Haven on February 27 at 12:15 p.m. It’s the first time these programs meet as Division I opponents, after New Haven’s jump to NCAA Division I in July 2025.
BIG EAST Road Matchups
The team heads out for its first BIG EAST road matchup at Providence on February 28. The Johnnies have dominated the Friars, winning 17 straight meetings since 2004.
Spring Break in Florida
Coach Leo’s squad will head to Florida over spring break. They’ll face Stetson in DeLand on March 3, then Bethune-Cookman in Daytona Beach on March 4.
Key BIG EAST Showdowns
Back in Queens, St. John’s hosts DePaul at the USTA National Tennis Center on March 13 at 12:15 p.m. Last season, the Johnnies pulled off a dramatic comeback to win 4-3 after trailing 3-0.
This matchup could be a real test, and honestly, it’s one to circle on the calendar.
Philadelphia and Villanova
The Red Storm heads to Philadelphia for a match against Saint Joseph’s on March 20. After that, it’s a short trip to Villanova on March 22.
Villanova, last year’s BIG EAST Tournament runner-up, won’t make things easy for St. John’s. That one could get interesting.
Final Stretch of Home Matches
St. John’s opens its final home stretch with Georgetown on March 28. Last season, the Johnnies edged the Hoyas 4-3 in a close one down in D.C.
