Mastering Fine Friday Finishes: Expert Sewing Tips for Perfect Results
Vanderbilt’s track and field team kicked off the Music City Challenge with a real statement. They racked up six first-place finishes, broke three school records, and notched seven top-10 marks in program history.
The Commodores showed their depth in all sorts of events, from high jumps and long jumps to hurdles and distance races. It was a day of standout performances, and honestly, it’s hard not to be impressed by the records they managed to topple.
Vanderbilt’s Dominance in Field Events

Field events turned into something of a showcase for Vanderbilt, especially in the high jump and long jump. Janie Ford led the charge in the open high jump, clearing 1.71 meters, which ties her for 10th all-time at Vanderbilt.
In the invite high jump, Cali Bryant and Mackenzie Dagrosa both cleared 1.78 meters. That height now ties them for third in the school’s history books.
Sweeping the Long Jump
Vanderbilt kept the momentum going in the long jump. Kayleigh Stargell hit a personal best with 5.85 meters to win the open section, which puts her seventh in program history.
Meanwhile, Lena Gooden soared to 6.29 meters in the invite division, grabbing first place. That’s the kind of distance that turns heads.
Excelling in Track Events
On the track, Vanderbilt’s speedsters made their presence known. All six Commodores advanced to the 60-meter hurdles semifinals after winning their preliminary heats.
Falon Spearman led the way at 8.20 seconds, with Santana Spearman right behind at 8.36. Taylor McKinnon, Janie Ford, Marta Sivina, and Devyn Parham also put in solid runs.
60 Meters Semifinals Qualifications
Four Commodores punched their tickets to the 60 meters semifinals. London Jackson-Bray and Alima Kassim both clocked 7.59 seconds, finishing eighth and ninth.
Danielle Duning and Devyn Parham weren’t far behind, running 7.65 and 7.70 seconds. That’s some tight competition.
Record-Breaking Distance Races
Distance events brought even more excitement. Lily Kriegel took second in the mile with a personal best of 4:41.39, further cementing her No. 5 spot in the school’s records.
Freshman Betsy Jepkemei also stood out, finishing seventh in the mile with a personal best of 4:47.32. Not bad for her first year.
Men’s Cross Country Achievements
The men’s cross country team had their own reasons to celebrate. Brady Bliven set a new program record in the mile, running 4:03.41 and finishing ninth.
In the 5,000 meters, Luke Churchwell smashed his personal best by 10 seconds and set a new school record at 14:24.22. That’s the kind of improvement you don’t see every day.
Concluding the Day with a Record-Breaking 200 Meters
To cap off an extraordinary day, Janie Ford broke the school record in the 200 meters. She clocked 23.37 seconds and won the event.
Falon Spearman and Alima Kassim landed top-five finishes as well. Both ran 24.37 seconds, tying them for eighth all-time at Vanderbilt.
The Music City Challenge picks up again Saturday. More performances from Vanderbilt’s athletes are on the way, and honestly, who knows what surprises are coming?
