The Journey of Jacy Weisbrod: From Kindergarten to College Star

Jacy Weisbrod’s love for basketball started early. Growing up in La Crosse, Wisconsin, she figured out pretty quickly that sports would shape her life—not just for the wins, but for the friendships, lessons, and all the doors it could open.

She first joined a YMCA youth basketball team as a kindergartener. The nerves and excitement before each game made it clear she was hooked.

Early Inspirations and Role Models

Watching athletes like Serena Williams and Simone Biles fueled her drive. These superstars, known for their dominance and confidence, set the bar high.

Serena Williams racked up 23 Grand Slam singles titles, and Simone Biles collected 32 Olympic and World Championship medals. Both showed the world that women could not only compete but thrive at the top, all while staying true to themselves. That message stuck with Weisbrod—she could do the same, play with confidence, and maybe inspire a few others, too.

Achievements on the Court

Weisbrod’s commitment has paid off during her time at Northern Michigan University. This season, she’s become the most dangerous three-point shooter in either Division I or II, averaging 3.59 makes per game.

She recently became Northern’s all-time leader in made threes and leads the GLIAC with 17.1 points per game. That kind of success doesn’t just happen—it comes from years of hard work and a real love for the game.

Support from Teammates and Community

Weisbrod gives a lot of credit to her teammates and the NMU and Marquette communities. She loves how competitive her teammates are and how much they bring to the table as people.

They’re not just talented athletes—they’re smart, driven, and genuinely awesome women. The Marquette community, with its dedicated fans, has made a big difference, too. Weisbrod feels lucky to play in front of them and to represent NMU wherever she goes.

The Role of Family Support

Her dad, Chip, has been a steady source of encouragement. Whatever the sport, he saw how much she loved to compete and stood by her as her biggest fan.

He showed up for games, helped her practice, and celebrated her wins. That support has shaped her, both on and off the court.

Impact of Women’s Sports on Personal Growth

Being a woman in sports has influenced every part of Weisbrod’s life. It’s changed how she faces challenges, her relationships, and even how she got her education.

Sports have given her confidence and shown her she can do things she never thought possible. National Girls & Women in Sports Day means a lot to her because it honors all the girls who dreamed big, even if they didn’t get the same chances.

Advocating for Equality and Inclusion

Weisbrod’s story shows why it’s important to keep pushing for equality and inclusion for girls in athletics. Her experience is a reminder of how much sports can shape someone’s life.

The NMU Athletics Department’s celebration of National Girls & Women in Sports Day really shows their commitment to these values.

Living the Dream

These days, Weisbrod’s out there living her dream, playing college basketball and representing women at a high level. She’s proud to be part of a community that genuinely supports women’s sports.

It feels good to see the growing attention and recognition for women’s basketball and, honestly, for all women’s sports. Weisbrod’s story inspires young girls everywhere—kind of a reminder that dreams aren’t out of reach if you bring enough hard work, dedication, and passion.
