Congress Urged to Pass Bipartisan Protect College Sports Act

The Chicago Tribune editorial board wants Congress to pass the Protect College Sports Act quickly. They point out that the nonstop flow of cash in college sports is wrecking Olympic and women’s programs, shrinking football to a mini-NFL run by about 30 or 40 powerhouse schools.

This bill has attracted rare bipartisan support. Over 290 colleges and universities, hundreds of coaches and student-athletes, pro leagues, key stakeholders, the President’s College Sports Commission, and even President Donald Trump have all backed it.

The Chaos in College Athletics

Sen. Ted Cruz, who chairs the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, says college sports are in total disarray. Money has flooded the system, and now student-athletes jump from school to school, sometimes playing for seven years or until they’re nearly 30.
